Moody Center is a new 15,000+ seat entertainment venue located on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.Opened this past April, it hosts concerts, Longhorns men's and women's basketball games, family events and much more.Global architecture firm Gensler designed the venue, which features a 360-degree glass exterior facade, a massive canopy for shade, and a variety of dynamic elements to engage and immerse visitors. One of those elements is a piece of digital art custom made by Design Communications (DCL) with Led video technology from SNA Displays. The exhibit wall, located in the northwest quadrant of Dell Concourse, was the result of a design-build collaboration with Gensler's DXD team in Austin.DCL first designed and prototyped large sections of the exhibit wall to resolve a layered assembly of light deflectors, diffuser acrylic, and CNC-cut sheet metal panels to achieve the look desired by the design team.“Given the tight configuration of the holes cut into the wood veneer panels, SNA Displays' full-array LED video modules were specified in lieu of individual LED pucks because they allowed endless versatility in creating video scenarios. content that aligned with the decorative pattern,” says Jeff Grantz, director of creative technologies at DCL.DCL's design team coordinated with SNA Displays to provide a custom mounting structure for the LED cabinets to maximize the artistic diffusion effect. The lobby installation features an SNA Displays Bold indoor video display. With a pixel pitch of 10 mm, a resolution of 288×2,016 and an area of 625 square meters, this video wall is part of an interactive design that incorporates audio and reacts to the movements of visitors.“One challenge the project presented was integrating the array of infrared cameras within the wall itself,” says Grantz.“These cameras were used to detect the movements of people in front of the screen, which allowed the Gensler team to develop a variety of gesture animations that help activate the space and engage visitors.”For the project, SNA Displays customized the grille panels so that the fixture's perforated cover could be mounted in front of the Led face with a perfect fit.Subscribe to our RSS feed and you won't miss a thing.© 2019 Digital AV Magazine - Underwood Communication SL
